Information for DSTV users

The Nigerian Federal Government has disclosed that it is finalising plans to force MultiChoice, a Digital Satellite Television and also a South Africa-based cable service provider to henceforth provide the pay-per-view options to its Nigerian subscribers. The government also disclosed that it has amended Nigeria’s broadcasting code to prevent DSTV from monopolising its channels and contents, a welcome development for all Nigerian DSTV subscribers.

This move is coming in the wake of the House of Representatives order that the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) give the South-African company an order to reverse its subscription rates which had been introduced on June 1, 2020.

The DSTV has been severally accused in times past by their Nigerian subscribers of extortion and being insensitive due to the high subscription prices of their services. Their grievances stemmed from DSTV's refusal to bulge from their request for a pay-per-view option as many claimed that they pay for what they don't watch.

Recall that the House of Representatives has been probing DSTV for allegedly cheating its Nigerian subscribers by restricting them to prepaid plans, a contrast to what is obtainable in other countries where the company is operating.
