FG finally reveals date for waec

The honourable Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has announced that the Federal Government of Nigeria and West African Examination Council, WAEC, have agreed to shift the date of West African Senior School Certificate Examination, from the August 4 to September 5, 2020, earlier announced by the Council according to TRIBUNE.

Nwajiuba, who disclosed this on Friday in Abuja, said that its part of the outcome of a meeting between the Federal Government, and officials of WAEC in Nigeria on Monday, and both parties have agreed to further consult with four other countries on new examination date.

Recall that the Education Minister, Malam Adamu Adamu, at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council on Tuesday, 8th of July, 2020, announced that no school will participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, earlier scheduled for August 4th to September 5th.

The above broadcast by the Hon. Minister, however, nullified the earlier announcement by Nwajiuba, who announced during joint task force briefing on COVID-19 that schools should reopen for students in Primary 6, who are to write the Common Entrance Examination, Junior Secondary School 3 students and Senior Secondary School 3 students.

The news that Nigeria wont participate in the upcoming WASSCE have thrown many students into confusion, but the recent release by Nwajiuba, who said that a new date will be announced after consulting with other west African countries is a positive sign that Nigerian SS3 students won't miss out.

He equally disclosed that the ministry have consulted widely with stakeholders in the sector, including Commissioners of Education in all the states of the federation, the Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON), National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Provosts of Colleges of Education, Rectors of Polytechnics, Vice-Chancellors of Universities, some State Governors, and development partners, in other to decide on specific date of reopening of schools.

This is the most exciting news so far for all Nigerian SS3 students as they won't miss out again on the upcoming WASSCE, because the yet to be announced new date will surely favor everyone.
